613371 2007-11-20 20:58:00 Your report will be read with interest Speedy. I have tried Comodo a few months ago, still have it on the old computer, but....

Is there going to be a compelling reason to switch from ZA? That is the question for me.

613372 2007-11-20 21:22:00 Umm well I used to use version 2.4. BUT it blocked too many things.

Inc the Windowsupdate site.

And I had to add so many things (like I use IRC, previously I had to add like 7 entries to Comodo, just to get DCC to work lol).

It wasnt funny.

But, once I signed onto ADSL, I didnt really bother about reinstalling Comodo.

And adding just 1 port to the router for Mirc/Irc, (for sending files), it worked the first time. And has worked since.

I may install V3. Hopefully, V3 will do this for you.

If it doesnt, well I'll remove/uninstall it.

I would say Comodo, is HEAPS better than ZA. It maybe a bit harder to configure, but its free forever.

ZA isnt. If you want some extra features in ZA, you have to pay for it.

I would say V3 of Comodo, is better than 2.4 as well. Since its bigger, and it looks like it will not only act as a firewall, it will also block malware etc.

613373 2007-11-20 22:38:00 Hmm just installed V3 of Comodo.

So far so, good, I chose the Firewall + defense option when I installed it. Rebooted.

Tried the Windowsupdate site, no prob at all. It worked with no errors coming up, like it used to, with 2.4 of Comodo.

The icon for Comodo stays on the taskbar.

ANY program you load or run, you'll see info from the icon on the taskbar.

Comodo's file (cpf.exe), isnt using that much ram at the mo (6324k).

I think this is a lot smaller, than when I was running version 2.4.

Only thing I have to test now is Mirc/DCC to see if I'll have to add anything to Comodo, or it'll add the ports itself.

613374 2007-11-21 01:23:00 I was using Comodo 2.4 but kept getting BSOD which I believe was an incompatibility with NOD32, so I went to using zonealarm, which is OK.

I'm going to try out comodo 3 and see how it runs, then decide on it or ZA

613375 2007-11-21 01:31:00 Just dont install it on Windows 2000, it doesnt work.

You'll have to use 2.4.

Altho the windowsupdate didnt bring up any errors, it still blocked sending in IRC.

Just have to figure out HOW to add the ports to it.

613376 2007-11-21 03:07:00 I only ran Comodo BoClean and found it slowed things down so bad I could not get pages to load and got a lot of time-outs .

Dumped one copy of it from one of my DSLd computers and instantly things got better again .

Dumped it from the other puter and they are both running many times faster it seems and I don't have to wait to build pages any more .

613377 2007-11-21 20:28:00 Downloaded it this morning and what a performance. Using windows XP I got sick of clicking on to allow connections and then had a complete seize up. Tried to uninstall but would not work. Closed down and rebooted and did a system restore to yesterday. I think some of these programmes are getting so complicated it's not funny. Will stick with the earlier version . heaton (3697)
613378 2007-11-21 20:35:00 Dont know why it wouldnt uninstall.

The only time it kept on popping up here, was with Trojan remover.

Since its got a random file generation option (and the filename changes).

Everything else was fine (besides IRC file sending not working).

Until I added the ports for it.

613379 2007-11-21 22:02:00 No problem here. Just a nuisance at first when it is learning everything. D/L an update for it this morning.
