613142 2007-11-19 23:13:00 Just went to upgrade an Intel AGP i740 card to an SiS 315E, forgot to uninstall old card first in device manager, now windows refuses to use the new one properly

Code 12: no free resources (disable something else to make this work)

Now the only change is the card, in the same AGP slot. how the hell does this cause a resource problem?

I enabled ghost device display and removed everything that isn't there anymore (inlcuding the old i740) but windows still doesn't like itself.

Any ideas?

613143 2007-11-20 00:39:00 Boot into "safe mode" - remove any existing graphics cards from devices list. I.e set to VGA, then reboot and OS should locate new card and allow you to install it correctly. hkeyzer (9827)

613145 2007-11-20 02:28:00 Try Driver Cleaner.

613146 2007-11-20 02:30:00 looks like the drivers screwed up someplace - can you run system restore back to before the card was changed - then start again and remove the drivers - put in the new card and hopefully the drivers will load Correctly. wainuitech (129)
613147 2007-11-20 05:25:00 what OS are you useing?

613148 2007-11-20 05:32:00 It's an old PC, P2 350mhz, running in Gigabyte GA-6BXC latest BIOS, WinXP Pro SP1

Thing is it works fine when I put the old card back in

Drivers for the i740 were windows ones, intel doesn't offer separate ones for XP, 315E was latest from SiS, I'll try drivercleaner, wasn't aware it did drivers this old??

613150 2007-11-21 23:42:00 Looks like some version of that mobo Did have probs (www.combatsim.com)

Like this guy found out, the bottom post.

So, it MAYBE the revision of the mobo, more than anything else.

Why it ran out of resources.

And here (forums.nvidia.com)

613151 2007-11-22 00:59:00 Bugger, looks like that mobo can't handle new video cards then doesn't it? :(

After reading your links I went to gigabyte's site (should have done first I guess) I found 2 FAQs for VGA that say:

Can I use GA-MG400 VGA card on this M/B?

If one wants to use GA-MG400, the M/B's BIOS should integrate the VGA card's BIOS. Thus, please update the latest version BIOS.
and

Why cannot use Geforce II MX AGP card on this motherboard?

PCB 2.0 and above can support this AGP card.

I know I'm running the SiS315 but I suppose it applies - and I'm running PCB ver 1.9 so I guess that's why it doesn't work.

Already had latest BIOS (F4c Beta) so I guess that's not the issue either.

Oh well, looks like I'll just have to find an older card that's better than an intel i740. Shouldn't be too hard I guess, Intel video cards are junk :D
