612881 2007-11-19 03:17:00 Just bought 2 x 1GB of Kingston KVR400X64C3AK2/2G dual-channel DDR RAM for this ASUS P5GD1-Pro machine. This machine is currently having GEIL 2 x 512MB DDR400 dual-channel of memory.

Inserted in the new pair of RAM into the 2 available RAM slot, turned ON the PC, the fans spin OK but no beep and no output to the monitor. Removed the existing GEIL sticks of RAM, inserted in the new Kingston RAM, it works fine. Inserted the GEIL pair into the available slot, turned ON, nothing happens.

What could be the problem? For sure, all the RAMs are OK as demonstrated above. Are they not matching? Or, the slots are faulty?

Please advise.

612882 2007-11-19 03:56:00 Could be the chips or amount of chips on them.

Or it may not like single or double-sided ram.

The MB manual says it supported up to max of 4 GB. And, they work fine alone (same brand), i.e. either 2 x 512 Geil or 2 x 1 GB Kingston. Are they particular about different brands?

612884 2007-11-19 04:19:00 I would say that most likely all 4 sticks of RAM are double sided, most motherboards have issues with 4 double sided sticks of RAM at the same time, you will have to either get 3 1gb sticks to replace all this, or just run the 2 GB kit lagbort (5041)
612885 2007-11-19 04:35:00 Managed to get another 2 sticks, one kingston and the other Transcent - bothe 512 MB. Put in and they worked quite happily with the 2 x 1G Kingston!
Am now getting 3 GB of RAM.

But, how do I check whether it's Dual-Channel or not?

612886 2007-11-19 05:46:00 bios will tell you and if you have all four slots populated with the same type ram in each set of two then it should be running dual...... drcspy (146)
