You can do better than that! I enquired about an upgrade to 3GB ram via email - said it can be done. |

2007-11-20 21:44:00 | It looks pretty expensive. I wouldn't buy it after what Bletch said about Quay. You might get the good service you hear about, or you might get the bad. Nowhere is perfect but I suspect you can do a lot better than this.

2007-11-20 21:44:00 | Thanks for that wainuitech . Had a friend who had problems with a quay, so brought it back - 3 days AFTER the warranty ran out - and wasn't charged!! He seemed impressed by their leniency (am I spelling that right?) when it comes to warranties etc . Not sure you'd get this kind of service from Compaq/HP or others . They also seem happy to remove some trial software on it before I get my hands on it - YIPPEEEEE! If something goes wrong with the HW n the first 1 year, is it fixed for free? Would you recommend them as a place to buy a PC? I build PC's myself in my own Businees (PS: Not advertising OK MODS!) But yes by all means Quays price is not to bad - Yes you may be able to purchase parts yourself and put it together for slightly cheaper - but one thing you get with a "Shop Built" is the knowledge that all the parts will work together - you only have to look here sometimes with problems people have . If a part fails then the warranty process is handled by the shop in general . Some times if you build yourself the problems with warranties can make you go :waughh: arrrghhhhhhhhhh . So if you add in the Total price of all components (look on pricespy) add in freight - if you brought Separately and built yourself - take your time into account also, then look at the savings - Not a lot . when it comes to warranties etc . Not sure you'd get this kind of service from Compaq/HP or others . I'll tell you EXACTLY what HP / Compaqs is - I had a laptop fail 3 weeks after its one year warranty - I tried my best to get it covered, good will from HP etc - in the end HP said and I quote " The warranty is for 1 year / 365 days on day 366 we dont give a stuff what happens to it" Regarding Quays Warranty - from their site: Support One Year return-to-store parts and labour warranty on base computer unit One Year free telephone support during business hours within Wellington free dial area Three Years onsite warranty on Viewsonic monitors 90 day support on bundled software supplied with PC through Quay Computers All PC Servicing to the computer base unit is carried out in store NOTE: I don't work for quays :)

2007-11-20 22:05:00 | Nope, not yet. Just looking at all the options. Just to see what it would cost if you built it yourself. Just built it using all the LOWEST prices from price spy. In round figures $1600.00 Now add in postage for parts from all different parts of the country approx $50.00 - your time to build it, install the OS - any problems to fix ?

2007-11-20 22:14:00 | Hmm. Buy it from either Wainuitech then or Ascent. Ascent have a good reputation for warranty.
