612965 2007-11-19 20:18:00 How do you do that with a Notebook Speedy?

Depends if its an IDE or SATA hdd.

If its an IDE hdd, you could get This (www.dse.co.nz)

If its SATA, you need need a mobo that supports SATA.

Just take the hdd out of the notepad. And connect the hdd (the same way, you would connect a normal SATA hdd).

Who says we dont  :stare: its a fine line 50 /50 between :waughh: and :) I'm at 49.9% Somes.

To Quote pctek -
Give it back to her and tell her either to find the CDs or contact Acer and get a new set.

Then bill the kids.

Don'y ya just love it when some people "play" on someone's PC thats not their own - then bugger it - and expect them to fix it.

Notice they never "play " on their own PC's.

612967 2007-11-19 21:01:00 The XP splash screen for the recovery partition is just there to confuse everyone, I have the same model Laptop and recovered it once before, it does recover to Vista contrary to what it implies! stormdragon (6013)

Well, isn't that just handy? :groan:

Any idea how we find or bypass the password that it keeps telling me is incorrect?

You could spend all day trying and get no where fast if the "standard fix" doesn't work -

Call Acer Technical support - 0800 223 769

Thanks for that but no help from Acer.

I was told straight up that if 000000 didn't work it was my problem!

Find who changed it!

I think the lady bought it from Noel Leeming but I doubt they would have set any passwords?

What now???

612971 2007-11-19 23:38:00 Just Googled it as well, searched many "suggestions" and even Acers suggested fix which you already tried of
1. Unplug the ac adapter. Keep ac adapter unplugged.

2. Remove the battery. Keep battery unplugged.

3. Hold the power button down for 15-20 seconds. (nothing will appear on the display and none of the lights will light up.)

4. Release the power button and plug in the ac adapter ONLY.

5. Normally power on the notebook. Doesn't work I see from a Previous post.

If Acer cant fix it, then can you get the password from the person who changed it _ of course no one will have touched anything  heard that story plenty of times.
The security is there for a reason - to stop setting being changed - its not that easy to crack. Usually if it was a desktop PC you could remove the CMOS battery for 30 minutes and it would reset every thing.

Sometimes you can recover the password - there is a program that runs from a CD calledOphcrack (http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/) this will run and show the user passwords. I don't know if it wiil do the BIOS security level or not.

Usually if the bios is locked I remove the cmos battery and reset it, but you may not be able to do this on the laptop.

612972 2007-11-19 23:56:00 Also found these instructions - have no idea if they work or not - but nothing to lose.
TO RESTORE TO FACTORY SETTINGS, WHILE BOOTING COMPUTER AND THE ACER LOGO IS DISPLAYED, HOLD ALT AND TAP F10 3 TIMES.

612973 2007-11-20 00:59:00 The Acer eRecovery Management Console requires an "Empowering Technology Password"!

Find out if they have made a the recovery disc (DVD) or discs (CD) because if they have they would have had to create a password for the eRecovery software before it would let them . So they should know what it is
