2007-11-23 22:50:00 | Hi all, AVG has just picked up two Trojan Horse dropper viruses from the Auto Tracker folder. They are "dir2file.exe" & Hotfix Cleaner.exe". I have sort of figured out what Auto Tracker is, but is is really necessary? & are these two viruses dangerous or should I delete the files? Thanks | pete45 (13055) | |
2007-11-23 22:56:00 | Any trojan is dangerous. Whats the exact name of these trojans? Post a hijackthis log (in my sig). Put it in its own folder, run it, click on scan the system and save the log. Copy and paste the log here. We'll see whats in it.

2007-11-23 23:43:00 | Downloaded Hijackthiis programs (executable & installer) & did scan OK, but it did not pick up the either of these two files at all. How do I get the Hijackthis program to find that file? Viruses are Tojan Horse Dropper VB.3.AQ.

2007-11-23 23:55:00 | Hijackthis doesnt find them. It tells you whats installed on your system. Post the log here. Get trojan remover in my sig below. Install, update it, then click on scan, and select all options under the utilities menu. See if that can find / remove anything. And then run my computer, select c, and right mouse / scan with trojan remover I would also get ccleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com) Install it then click on run cleaner to clean the browser/s cache / temp files. Umm if you're on dialup open IE and go to tools / internet options / connections. If there's another connection here besides yours delete it. And make yours the default connection. You may also have to disable system restore, if the above doesnt work, to remove it. If you have XP.

2007-11-24 00:00:00 | Thanks, I can just heal/delete them with AVG, so will do that. Will that affect Auto Patcher program & if so, is that a problem anyway. I mean, is Auto patcher really necessary?

2007-11-24 00:18:00 | Well Autopatcher installs up to date patches etc. BUT, it'll be the last one you get. As it is no longer available. AVG may heal it but does it fix it / remove it?

2007-11-24 02:20:00 | So, you reckon it would be safe to uninstall/delete the whole Auto Tracker program?? Thanks for your help with this. | pete45 (13055) | |
2007-11-24 02:36:00 | I dont think Autopatcher and Autotracker are the same thing are they? Didnt Autopatcher update your system with the latest updates? I dont think it put an entry in Add/remove programs did it? I dont know, I never used it. Whats in add/remove programs Auto patcher or tracker? I wouldnt have a clue what Autotracker is or what it did. Or was Autotracker part of Autopatcher?

2007-11-24 02:49:00 | Sorry, read Auto Patcher rather than auto tracker. | pete45 (13055) | |
2007-11-24 02:53:00 | If you dont know what Auto Tracker is uninstall it. Dont delete its folder. Without uninstalling it first.
