614406 2007-11-23 21:17:00 I have a DVD with a Video_TS film clip that was made for me by a commercial outfit from an old video. It contains VOB, IFO & BUP files which do not seem very workable and it seems that my best plan would be to convert the VOB & IFO files, at least, to MPG. Two of the things are to be able to edit to cut out some junk and not so good features.... the other is to make copies after doing that to send to rellies overseas.

I have found out that by copying the DVD to my hard-drive I can have a go without losing the original in case it does not work. A search of the web tells me that usually just changing the extension VOB to MPG will work (sometimes not). If it does not work then I still have the DVD. Do I change the extension names of IFO (which apparently stand for information) & BUP files too ?

(I did a search on PressF1 for VOB and came up with nothing at all)

Furthermore - am I following the best plan ?

614409 2007-11-23 21:26:00 Nerovision can load vob, I think thats the main file on a DVD.

You should be able to edit it then reburn it.

But the plugin for it may not be free.

Well any video editing program should load it, and let you edit / reburn it.

I did get put off a bit as had tried to copy the DVD (without editing) using Nero Express and it did not work. I put that down to it being a VOB file - but that may well have been a wrong assumption.

Will try using Nerovision
thanks, Misty :)

614411 2007-11-23 22:01:00 Maybe have a look at video help com (http://www.videohelp.com/), under the how to section. There are various format conversions, articles, etc that may help... kahawai chaser (3545)

I have Nerovision Express 3
Maybe only a fuller version will load VOB because when I choose "Open Saved Project or Disc Image"
it gives the options

NeroVision Express Project .nvc
All Disc Image files
Nero Image files .nrg
Cue Image files .cue
Iso Image files .iso

Tried each option separately but none would open. You would think that choosing the "All Disc Image files" would be the clincher -- but it does not like the VIDEO_TS and won't open.

Likewise I tried the "Make Movie" option of Nerovision Express and still no joy !

Thats possible, it may only be in Nerovision the full version.

Its not a disk image. In the full version, its under Make DVD / DVD-Video, add video files. or Make Movie / browse.

This is where you add the vob file.

BUT you may only get this far, if u select one of the above and it says the video plugin has been detected.

You could try this (http://www.cdburnerxp.se)

Not too sure if it does vob tho, but its free. Dont know if you can edit with it either.
