614056 2007-11-22 22:37:00 I currently use Spybot and NIS 2007:waughh: I don't believe 2 is sufficient. Any good recommendations out there? Preferably free :D

Cheers

614057 2007-11-22 22:41:00 hm.........get a decent antivirus rather than norton anyway....say nod32 and comodo do an excellent free firewall which also keeps an eye on yoru system as well, you could add spywareblaster and perhaps winpatrol and maybe analogx script defender......all free except for nod32 which is about half the price of norton and twice as good drcspy (146)
614058 2007-11-22 22:44:00 Comodo, if u can figure out how to add ports etc.

And you can put up with the popups lol.

And AVG (Altho I prefer Avast Home, BUT I use Pro, which isnt free).

All are free, except Avast Pro

NIS 2007 would do more than spybot, BUT depending on your system, NIS may slow your system down.

And if you plan on getting something else, you CANT install more than 1 firewall.

They'll conflict, with each other.

So, depending on WHAT you want to install (as in firewall, you'll have to uninstall NIS 2007 first).

614059 2007-11-23 01:13:00 Yea well I was basically thinking about spyware and viruses. I know for sure Spybot and NIS 07 won't detect and remove 100% of all nasties, so what good programs are out there that I could add to my list. I used to have ad-aware and windows defender, but no anymore. Are they any good?

How many of each do you think is the recommended for a safe computer?
2 antivirus + 2 antispyware?

Thanks

614060 2007-11-23 01:17:00 You only NEED 1 AV and 1 firewall .

If you have 2 firewalls, they'll conflict .

If u have 2 AV programs and they do exactly the same thing (like scan emails), they may conflict .

Unless you disable some options .

I know ZA and Avast can conflict . I had to disable some option in ZA a while ago (I dont use ZA now tho)

So the system wouldnt freeze .

Whats the point, in having 2, if one can do whatever .

Just dont go to dodgy sites, install P2P programs, or go to warez sites .

Or install dodgy software that installs malware .

614061 2007-11-23 02:26:00 To add to every ones suggestions Nod32 for the AV ,

Antispyware -a long with the other suggestions take a look at the free version of Spyware doctor in my sig - thats finding a few spybot missed.
