| 614917 | 2007-11-25 04:52:00 | What was on it originally?? Vista? I would have taken it back, if it didnt work the first time. Take it back and hopefully they'll replace it. The longer you try and reinstall it and it fails, the less chance of the shop replacing / fixing it. |

| 614919 | 2007-11-25 05:36:00 | What make and model of laptop is it ? Can you run the system recovery - most of them come with a hidden partition that stores the recovery. The error you are getting could be because the discs you created may not have burnt correctly. Does it stop at the same stage each time ? |

| 614922 | 2007-11-25 07:04:00 | Okay - looks like the Laptop doesn't have a recovery Partition: SO --- When reinstalling the OS from a recovery CD it formats ( usually) loads the OS and all Cr*p Programs they bundled with it - no way out of that. Well there is - you have two choices 1st Since its new I wouldn't do this myself on a month old system but that is get a OEM copy of Vista and use the product key on the back of the Laptop and download the drivers from the HP site - I looked they are there. (Personally its to new to start doing this method) - But it wont load all the cr*p bundled Programs. Second and the best way is to contact HP and tell them EXACTLY what has happened - DONT mention the bit about removing the cr*p programs that will mean nothing to them. Heres what you say - You had to reinstall the Laptop - you followed the instructions as per there site Described here (h10025.www1.hp.com) and made a recovery disc when you first got the Laptop - ( which is true) NOW the recovery Disc doesn't work and you get the error message. I have looked up the error message and cant find it any where. So Knowing HP as I do they will say you need to reinstall the OS and then call back if it doesn't work. BUT its catch 22 - you cant because even after following HP's reccommended procedure (making the disc) it WONT install - and you cant reinstall as THEIR suggested recovery wont work. Now is the "interesting Bit" You need to convince them to send you out replacement disc's FREE - as you followed their prodedure and it failed, so you cant do what they suggest and why should you pay for new disc's when their own procedure has failed. IF by some remote chance its a hardware problem they will insist on reinstalling before a warranty claim can be made - the warranty only covers hardware - not software. HP NZ contact details Here (h20431.www2.hp.com) I'm assuming you are in NZ Hope all the above makes sence. What you can try is pressing F10 on startup - if it does have a hidden partition thats HP's usual key to activate it. |
