| 614705 | 2007-11-24 09:09:00 | i own a acer aspire 3860, and yesterday installed win vista ultimate, and did the usual updates. I noticced vista stsrted to report that i was running on battery when the power was plugged in and on. ZThe battery died several times......now the laptop refuses to start, even if i pull the battery out completely......im scared i hav voided the warranty (as its still covered) by wiping and installing vista..... this never happened with XP so have i donne something? | aidanmaz (7180) | ||

| 614707 | 2007-11-24 21:28:00 | Have you got those numbers correct - I have done a search on both google and Acers sites and they dont list the 3860 - they do list the Aspire 3680. Regarding the warranty - it shouldn't be affected - warranties usually only cover hardware, not software, thats why when ever there is a problem unless its obvious like a burning smell, blown screen etc, they say words to the effect "Run the recovery and put the system back to factory original, then if the problem is still there call us back" If the laptop is a 3680 the reason you are having problems is it doesn't support Vista ultimate See this chart (global.acer.com) it will only support Vista Basic according to the chart/ specs. Will the battery recharge when connected to the power - if so to get to the power settings speedy suggested, click on the start orb - directetly above that in the search window type in Power, right at the top of the window in th eresults will be "Power Options", click that and there will be all the available options. If its anything like my own 5 year old acer XP Pro the windows power options dont work to good - The acer power management software works better - Vista may be the same. |

| 614708 | 2007-11-24 23:28:00 | whoops...3680 sorry my bad. Hmmmm so i shouldnt rely on the Vista upgrade advisor. Yes Vista performance really sucks so i will go back to XP......just tryin to keep with the times. And yes the battery does charge.....but then randomly switches to battery power and runs dry........it works okay now if i pull out the battery......i thought other than features......the vista cores were the same.... |

All my not be lost - The Laptop simply may not have the power / hardware to run the ultimate - That can simply be as simple as disabling the Aero in the graphics - OK the "eye Candy" wont look as good - but it may work OK. Heres how to try - Click on the start orb, start typing in personalization , when it appears up the top of the search list click it Select " Windows Color and Appearance Around the middle of the page will be the option to Open Classic Appearance Shown Here (www.imagef1.net.nz) Excuse the bad drawing ;) Then when it opens, select Vista Basic. High Lighted Here (www.imagef1.net.nz) Click apply / Ok the screen will dim for a moment then come back and all the Aero will disappear but the laptop may work now. |
