615065 2007-11-26 06:22:00 hi timmy
I have a similar problem.
It is an external western digital usb drive. It starts on its own when starting the machine. Sometimes when I start up windows it is there and sometimes not.
Just before I had to go to the device manager and reinstall the driver and then it showed up on the windows explorer. I don't know the reason for this either,
and may you got the same sort of thing happening?

615066 2007-11-26 18:46:00 Yes. It is basically the same but I think I know why.
I Think it is a hidden .dll and AUTORUN2.inf file that are missing.

615070 2007-11-26 20:47:00 USB flash drives DON'T like being formatted in NTFS.

It might work on some computers, (within Windows), BUT if you want to make a bootdisk, it wont like NTFS.

615071 2007-11-26 23:23:00 Hi timmy101 and Speedy G onzales
That sounds ineresting as I got two USB exterior drives on the table; one is a Pleiades with a 80 G B drive with manual on and of switch and the other a USB WD 259 G B "automatic" on/off.
It is only the WD drive that has the problem mentioned. It it is the case right now. So I just reinstalled the driver and there it is? A pain allright!
Have you timmy found the needed dll's and .info files?
I will check the WD website to see if I find any documentation for this problem.

615072 2007-11-26 23:57:00 Yes, its on
DLL and inf for USB (www.keepmyfile.com)
You need to have the hide system files unchecked.
Copy into your drive: (Works on my Toshiba 2gb drive)

I contacted WD and lets see if they come up with the same solution.
I will post the update.
