| 1421081 | 2016-05-27 23:03:00 | I have a desktop PC running windows 10 and was thinking of installing a ssd drive with OS on it and use 2 = 1tb for programmes and storage etc Thought about getting this one Samsung 750 EVO 250GB 2.5 Inch Solid State Drive as it seems adequate. It should be pretty straight forward would it be like fitting a new sata hard drive 3.5"? | 1421082 | 2016-05-27 23:37:00 | Shouldn't be a problem. The SSD drives are only 2.5" so they either need a smaller Bay ( or some cases have mounts built in) or a 2.5" to 3.5" mounting tray. When installing Windows like you mention ( separate larger drives) I always ONLY have the SSD plugged in when installing the OS, this is because sometimes weird things happen if other drives are attached. Once installed then connect the other drives. |

| 1421083 | 2016-05-28 02:45:00 | A lot depends if you want to migrate an existing OS or do a fresh install. While it's perfectly possible to migrate the OS and it usually goes ok starting fresh is the more reliable way to go. Check the BIOS is in AHCI mode before installing for the best SSD performance and disconnect all other hard drives when installing to prevent windows putting hidden system files on them, I think it's some restore data or something but often windows won't boot when removing a storage drive if it was connected during OS installation and that's sometimes the first indication you get that some OS files were hiding on there. (I just realised I was basically repeating Wainui for that one :)) |
