1420771 2016-05-21 03:02:00 I purchased two Kindle Fire tablets for myself and my friend (Amazon) - we only want to use them as e-readers. We both have the previous bog standard Kindles and I have no problem sending books to the device using Calibre. for some reason I cannot transfer books from my PC to the Kindle Fire - either using Calibre or drag and drop. Advice please? I have tried copying the "folder" which contains the book (mobi) and cover picture etc., and also just copying over the mobi file. What am I doing incorrectly please? I am using W7 Pro.

TIA

1420773 2016-05-21 08:24:00 Don't they just sync up & download automatically when you sign in? I've never had a dedicated Kindle, but when I signed into the app on my new tablet all my books downloaded. Renegade (16270)
1420774 2016-05-21 09:59:00 Have you registered your new device with Amazon? If you do this you will be able to download the Kindle books you already own for your older Kindle device direct from Amazon. John H (8)

You could try the FAQ manual.calibre-ebook.com

does the kindel fire have USB options like other android devices? perhaps it need to be set to the right mode?
I assume you've read this one www.amazon.com

1420776 2016-05-21 11:47:00 Are you putting the ebooks in the correct folder - If you don't it wont read them. To quote the instructions:

Easy Method #2 Transferring Your Files by USB

If you use a micro-usb cable and connect it to your computer, you can transfer files to and from your Kindle just like it was an external hard drive.

Place any .mobi files in the Books folder, and place .pdf and other formats in the Documents folder. Once you've added your files, you may need to restart the Kindle to get it to recognize your new books.

1420777 2016-05-22 03:39:00 Thanks for the replies.... on the Kindle Fire (5th generation) all the books I have obtained via my Amazon account appear listed and I can d/l as and if I wish. There are also 10 additional books which showed up as Samples. However, the books I have on my PC simply to not appear no matter what method I trial - including using the USB cable, or drag and drop, re-starting after copying etc. etc. Is there a driver or some other software I should be using with this monster? I did put mobi files into the book folder but they simply don't appear when I click on the Kindle icon on the Fire screen.... Rude words are coming to mind and the wine bottle gets more appealing as the day wears on..... and all I really wanted was a plain ordinary e-reader.... sigh.... Bryden (4161)
