1417415 2016-03-14 02:10:00 Take a look at THIS (www.tvnz.co.nz).

When is someone going to tell them if you “Do the Crime”, you “Do the Time”, and it doesn’t matter if you’re Black, White, or Brindle.

In the RNZ account, the legal counsel says;

7026

However if we look at the budget and actuals for Law and Order;

7027

(Assuming Law and Order encompasses Justice Dept, that is)

The expenditure is nowhere near the "highest of any government" as this muppet claims. Once more, it seems we have the ugly head of the Waitangi Tribunal Industry rearing its head to justify "troughing" by its fringe advisors.

Bottom line is, the quoted article serves only to support the empty noises made by the troughers, building anger and resentment - and support for their self serving (and revenue generating) activity.

Why the hell can't our news media get it into their corporate pea brains they need to check their facts before presenting hear say and ill advised opinions as "news"?

Sorry if I've hijacked your post B.M. :)

Re-offending - Obviously rehabilitation not working eh ! do the crime do the time -- Only have to look at programs like police 10 7 most wanted. ;)

1417418 2016-03-14 03:51:00 What are they complaining about...its a fair 50/50 split . Isnt that what they allways want ?

Go back 30 years, same discussion popped in the media:Maori had a high crime rate .
But then everyone cried 'racist' , so no one could talk about it & another generation was lost .

Your absolutely right Wal, but fancy a Partner in a Law firm making such an outrageous statement.

7028

Anybody with an IQ bigger than their shoe size would know that Social Security and Welfare along with Health have much bigger budgets.

So here we have a case of two fools met. The lawyer that made the statement and the journalist that allowed it to go to air as fact.

But if that isn’t enough, it seems that you and I and other law abiding citizens are responsible for these oxygen thieves offending and reoffending.

Meantime, our intrepid leaders are trying to work out how to stack the vote for a new flag. :rolleyes:

1417420 2016-03-14 05:16:00 If they can show any evidence that people have been convicted because of their ethnicity then they have a point. If that's the case however it just means there are too many non Maori going free and if anything will result in more convictions without reducing the number of Maori in prison at all, the % may shift but the total numbers are unlikely to. I wish I could offer a solution but I don't have one. I fail to see how it's my problem rehabilitating anyone though, whoever they are.

There's certainly a problem that needs fixing, but is it fair to allocate a disproportionate amount of tax payer money to one single group of criminals, isn't treating them differently based on ethnicity racist itself? Surely whatever money goes to rehabilitation should be allocated fairly across all criminals and the high % of Maori offenders will just mean they actually end up getting more of it than any other group anyway. No need to officially bring race into it.

To my mind no one should even be mentioning race with regards to anything, these are simply criminals. Not Maori criminals, not Pakeha criminals, just criminals. They have the option not to commit crimes just like everyone else.

1417423 2016-03-14 06:18:00 I think researchers/academics will always mention race. Generally low level violemt crimes might have a different criminal/race set than say white collar crime (Bridgecorp anyone?). Also are some crimes in NZ really criminal acts. I saw a Aussie doco where drug dealers/users were caught driving/smoking drugs, but not prosecuted but just warned. Here labelled as a criminal act?

Also Years ago I recall a maori drug dealer telling me in the pub that most of his clients were middle class whites. Salesman, trades people, a priest, white street workers, uni students, old women, a fair broad range. He got busted by a undercover white cop. So one crim selling to other ptential crims?

Excellent link Lurking, but an entirely different problem.

There they were looking at the invasion of another country, quite different to a group of pseudo Maori wanting special treatment because of a distant connection to the Maori race.

And if the countries in that link didn’t defend their boarders, then “problem belong them”, as they would say in New Guinea. :)
