| 1416437 | 2016-02-24 22:41:00 | I know of 2 men who used to work in a NZ asbestos plant. One lived into his 70's, the other is still alive & healthy. So using some of the above arguments given above, asbestos is not harmfull . At all. :) If you are referring to my post, I was making no claims about anything being not harmful. I was making the observation that some lucky individuals are not affected by exposure to harmful substances due to luck & genetics. |

I was just ranting away :-) I have a issue with the way plastic bottles often dont seem to make it into the bin . Just chuck em out the car window. I'd like a compulsory 10c refund on drink bottles & cans . Just add it to the price . Used to be you'd get people out looking for empty bottles & cans to make a few $ |

| 1416439 | 2016-02-25 01:43:00 | Trouble was that the Romans used lead piping for water reticulation a fair bit. As we do in my village in Derbyshire and my friend who still lives there has just turned 100. Mind you, the lead will kill him in the end. Most all older houses in England used lead pipes too. The bore gets coated with lime if in hard water area, and even in a soft water area like Birmingham it got coated with something, maybe lead oxide. I've lived in at least 7 houses from childhood that had lead pipes. Edit: if you were into plumbing a bit, the first thing you learned was to make a wiped solder joint in lead pipes. |

They also used clay. Apparently the issue wasn't the pipes but cookware, especially when used with acidic ingredients. So say the researchers..... |

Exactly, and that is why warnings were/are periodically made about using cheap painted Chinese cooking pots that may have leaded paint. It is an urban myth that the Romans got lead poisoning from using lead water pipes. |

Will the Council give me a tap and a beer supply like they do with water? I must ask you for more info! |

| 1416445 | 2016-02-27 08:27:00 | I would never buy bottled water in NZ. Yet my local countdown has a whole aisle full of it and in big bottles that would take two guys to lift. |
