That flash came from a starter motor. The lights all remain in full compliance with the 1941 Blackout Regulations (Extreme Dark.) at all times. If the lights are fed from an all Lucas battery, generator, wiring, fuses and control equipment, absolute darkness is absolutely assured.

Actually in all the time we had old english cars, we only ever had mechanical issues, never an actual electrical one....

Had you tried a car with an actual electrical system to give you a reference point, you would realise that Lucas are inherently immune to electrical problems due to the lack of electricity. A car with ultra dim lights powered by an iconograph of a glow worm makes it extremely difficult to detect that the lights have failed without amazingly delicate equipment. :devil
