616599 2007-11-29 20:33:00 Have got a old Dell computer which failed to work. When turning ON, all I can see and hear is 3 long beeps. I thought it's the RAM problem, so I pulled out the RAM and put in a known to-be good stick but this does not solve the problem.

Any suggestions?

616600 2007-11-29 20:42:00 I don't know what sort of BIOS dell uses but find out or if you know have a search. There are lots of sites that will give you the meaning of different beep combinations. Not much help I'm afraid but that's where I'd start. HTH mark c (247)
616601 2007-11-29 21:34:00 Dell uses special type of RAM or just ordinary generic stick of RAMs? bk T (215)
616602 2007-11-29 21:41:00 Should use any, if its not fussy like HP computers.

I would check the CPU and fan..

What kind of system is it? P3? P4? AMD?

616603 2007-11-29 21:53:00 It's a Intel Celeron system. Checked the fan is spinning OK.

Just turned it ON again: actually, it gives 4-long beeps, halt a little then 2 more long beeps. Pulled out everything except the RAM produces same results.
