616231 2007-11-29 06:36:00 I have a wireless connection set up on an old laptop.
The desktop & laptop can ping each other (both running XP) and I have Internet Connection Sharing enabled on the broadband connection on the dektop.

I know it works because I can view a webpage on the laptop by IP address, but not by name. Obviously a DNS problem, but where?

Settings:
Desktop
IP 192.168.0.1
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.0.1

Laptop
IP 192.168.0.2
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.0.1
DNS 192.168.0.1

Missing something obvious....

616232 2007-11-29 06:43:00 I take it you've got some kind of wireless modem/router, and configured that as well?

BB doesnt need ICS.

A router will do that.

616233 2007-11-29 06:47:00 I've got a PCI ADSL card in the desktop for the broadband connection, plus a wireless PCI card to connect to the D-Link card in the laptop.

It all ran fine when I had Windows 2000 installed on the laptop, but I formatted the machine & installed XP.

616234 2007-11-29 06:52:00 Ok,

The DNS of the laptop:

Laptop
IP 192.168.0.2
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.0.1
DNS 192.168.0.1 <--- This

Would be your ISP's Primary DNS server ip
Your ISP's alternative DNS server ip would go underneath it.

Not the desktop's ip address (192.168.0.1).

But if this doesnt work, you may need an access point.
