2007-12-01 05:00:00 | About a year ago I bought a new computer. It's specs are: -2.4 Ghz AMD Athlon 64 3800+ dual core processor -1GB of DDR2-667 RAM -ATI Radeon X550 256mb video card -MSI K9N Neo Motherboard -Vista home premium So my PC is slightly out of date, but it should be able to handle anything but gaming. But I have noticed recently that it is very very slow. If i click on too much things, it will not respond for 5 minutes. Web browsing alone can be enough to bring my system to its knees. It feels slower than my old Duron 900mhz, yet it has a dual core processor at more than double the speed. It wasn't like this before I installed vista, although when I had XP, I had a lot more room on the HD and a lot less programs installed. I have up to date Symantec antivirus, and run spybot frequently. I do an occasional defrag, but I never notice much performance increase. I considered my PC might be a Zombie, but I only have dial up. What is the problem with my PC, and what can I do to fix it?

2007-12-01 05:59:00 | Get hijackthis in my sig below. Put it in its own folder, run it, then click on scan the system and save a log. We'll see if you've got anything nasty.

2007-12-01 07:30:00 | Another gig of ram would help, 1gb is a minimum for Vista Home Premium. | feersumendjinn (64) | |
2007-12-01 10:33:00 | And don't forget to clean out your cache, and to defrag after you have had your hijack log checked. | supergran (108) | |
2007-12-01 18:02:00 | What is the problem with my PC, and what can I do to fix it? You bought it with Vista on it a year ago? Anyway my guess is bloat. Backup your data and do a fresh install.

2007-12-01 23:07:00 | You bought it with Vista on it a year ago? It wasn't like this before I installed vista, although when I had XP, I had a lot more room on the HD and a lot less programs installed. I'd do as Speedy suggests and get HJT from his sig and run it and post the log here to start with...

2007-12-09 22:46:00 | And there is a folder under C:\Windows\ called "Prefetch". Delete all files under it as sometimes it might make the system load too many things.

2007-12-09 23:00:00 | Run hijackthis again tick these entries then tick fix checked Close browser/s. I would disable the Indexing service. Its a memory hog. And has high CPU usage Its probably this thats slowing you down. As this forum shows (forums.microsoft.com) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Software Update] C:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe O13 - Gopher Prefix: Uninstall ALL versions of Sun Java. Looks like you've got 2 versions of Sun Java installed. Yours is out of date. Link is in my sig. I wouldnt be surprised if that Symantec program is slowing you down too.
