| 616749 | 2007-11-30 07:50:00 | .. when i open up my computer, and open the disk, it opens up in internet explorer... then i can only install firefox and someother software... im trying to burn it again... Just to confirm you are doing things correctly, you saved the ubuntu-7.10-desktop-i386.iso file to your computer, then you used your CD burning program to burn that file as an image? IE should not open up when viewing that CD. |

| 616754 | 2007-11-30 16:55:00 | Basically it goes like this, I was happy with Windows 98se, a few months ago until I had to do the n'th reinstall. then nothing seemed to work the same, then I got Windows XP professional, in less than a week of using that I decided I got to go back to linux & stick with it, Dont get me wrong I would be bloody happy with Microsoft if we got a quality product (like all other normal products on the market) and dont have to do a n'th reinstall. The defrag you would think that would get even better as the newer versions came out, XP does not tell you how long since you last defraged, and it gives me the impression it is a frager program, that puts red frag lines into it instead of taking it out. I can not remember what my last linux was I had SuSE, Mandrake, Red hat a older version of Ubuntu and they were all installed from bootable cd/dvd, that worked great until I changed my password and could not log on with my Internet provider. So now I decided to give Solaris a go, So I got Solaris 10 (August 08/07 version) out from USA I ordered it from Sun web site on a Wednesday and had it the following Monday for $nz100, you can download it but that is your choice I still have cheap slowband internet. then I found out my DVD reader would not work, and I missed the fine print, you need 500 meg of ram, I only have 252 meg on my computer that is about 5 years old, so after many months of hard saving I think why not wreck my saving on another (new) computer (without any operating system with it) & now Christmas fun is gone. The computer shop was not too sure if linux would be on this computer. On Thursday night I installed Solaris 10 on it , it worked great, it has Star Office 7, Gimp 2.0 just to mention a couple of useful programs, but after 10 minutes the computer froze and rebooted by itself, it failed to reload to the graphical bit and would only reload to a command prompt, So I tried a reinstall it went around in "start up" endless loops without getting to the install part, So I deleted the partitions with fdisk and this is where Ubuntu 7.1 from NZ PC world fits into the picture. But now that does not work, I have done a new Solaris install and it now works OK I am not sure why it froze up last (a bit of a worry), Have a happy day! |

| 616756 | 2007-12-09 01:21:00 | Hmmm - two problems 1 - If I boot an Acer Aspire 1350, the screen goes blank during the boot of Ubuntu, and never reappears. 2 - Booting a generic DSE PC, I get a login prompt ? username/password Thanks |
