616714 2007-11-30 04:35:00 Hi,

For the last four days on start up,I see the "update shield" on my bottom tool bar for a few seconds and then it disappears.
When I shut down, each time over the last four days - there is a shield showing on my "shutdown icon" page, whch has, as always, previously, done it's job--
Including my mid month O S updates- but now, what ever program it is,it remains uninstalled, apparently, as the next time I fire up, work, then shut down - there it is again and I have no way of finding out from whence it came.
No update shows in my add/remove after Novemeber 14, so it obviously has not completed the install.
Can some body advise what is going on please?-- and of course, how to fix it
I use XP Pro, O S

616715 2007-11-30 05:00:00 Go to the Windowsupdate site and do a scan.

If it brings up that notifications update untick it.

That's been happening on the other PC (with that annoying notifications update).

Its not installed on either of these, and wont be either.

616716 2007-11-30 05:27:00 Hi Speedy Gonzales,

Thank you - I will do that, but will I need to do to have the normal updates installed as they usually come in mid month ie --10 th through 13th of the month, search the update site manually?
And if it comes to that, if I then try and install manually will it run into the same problem ie not install

616717 2007-11-30 05:42:00 Hi Speedy G,

For what it is worth, your comment earlier that you had the same trouble on another Xp computer - see if the below comment, helps you and me.

I went into the update site and it stated that XP had to have another install modification to be able to get the auto updates !- from now on ?

I downloaded that and it appears - I repeat, appears, to have made things right - I shalll see when I fire up next time

Thank you yet again for your freely given advice- it is very much appreciated

616718 2007-11-30 05:53:00 Hi S G,

Further to above I went into "update history" and there are each of the "failed" installs- namely Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1
All others installed and unless you think I need the above - I won't be to fussed
Again thank you

I'm having the same issue - it fails to install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1.
Yet I have Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 installed.
I have uninstalled version 2.0 and tried to reinstall the service pack with no luck.
Any ideas on how to fix it?

616720 2007-11-30 06:48:00 Get it manually (www.microsoft.com)

If .Net framework 1.1 is installed I would get SP1.

616721 2007-11-30 07:23:00 You have to be careful, how and in what order you install these .net framework programs and updates.

I uninstalled 1.1 once while v2 was installed. I couldnt reinstall 1.1

I had to format, to fix it.

Thanks Speedy.
I had uninstalled 2.0 hoping that would have fixed it before I posted here.
I d/l 1.1 service pack, installed that and that fixed it.
Thanks again.
