The problem is that the drive will only burn (using windows inbuilt burnin system) a cd that already has some file burnt onto it..........if you insert a blank cd it wont burn it jsut says 'insert a writeable cd'.......

i've googled it and found a ms fix but that didn't help
also found that there is a possibility that a firmware update MAY help but LG (who make the drive) state NOT to use the update on drives supplied to OEM manufacturers.......this is an acer multimedia desktop so i'm a bit reluctant in case it stuffs the drive

has anyone else had this issue ?

the system did have hp 'memories disk creator' on it but I uninstalled that to check the possibility of any kind of conflict. Didn't make any difference

Someone on the net suggested that they had disabled the windows writing software then removed the drive from device manager then rebooted and let it reinstall and they reckoned it was fixed......unfortunately I didn't read that till after I'd left the job.......

617976 2007-12-04 21:29:00 Sounds like the previous burn finalised it.

Which is why it says insert a writeable cd.

Or its a DVD blank, which XP's built in burning doesnt support.

Without the Imapi 2 update.

Try another drive in it and see if it still does it.
Personally those 2 words above tell me everything I need to know..............

617981 2007-12-05 03:07:00 Use something else / better. Speedy Gonzales (78)
617982 2007-12-05 03:09:00 sigh.........speedy thanks but that still doesn't address the issue of the actual problem drcspy (146)
617983 2007-12-05 03:13:00 Well I would say noone has replied, coz noone USES XP's built in cd burning.

They'll be using something else, or something better.

Or they'll be using other programs, besides Nero to back up whatever.

617984 2007-12-05 03:32:00 I did have something slightly similar, in that my Asus DRW 1814BLT drive would not recognise new Imation CD-RW discs, but another brand of CD-RW fixed that. Have you tried various brands of disc? rumpty (2863)
