| 617741 | 2007-12-04 06:00:00 | I did a system restore couple of days ago after deleting my user profile to find that it didnt fix an issue I was having. All the files from a folder on my desktop were deleted. My Recycle Bin appears to contain trash but on clicking, there is nothing. How can I find the lost files? |

There have been a few recommended on the forum, so do a search and see what you can find - or someone may recommend one. | Jen (38) | ||
| 617744 | 2007-12-04 06:14:00 | First DONT install Any programs on the actual PC. Chances are good they will still be there, just windows cant see them. The start or stop bit on the missing files has more than likely been dumped. Any activity like installing programs MAY over write any recoverable data. Two options I use in cases like these. 1. Download (on another PC) Knoppix (www.knopper.net), other Linux Live CD's may do the same Ubuntu for example. Burn the ISO image to a CD - Boot from the Live CD with a USB / second spare drive attached and see if you can locate the files, copy to backup location. Then put back where they were. If that doesn't locate them - 2.Down Load a recovery Program to another PC - something like This here Free (www.pcinspector.de) or if that doesn't detect then a paid one thats very good is Get Data Back (www.runtime.org) < The trial will tell you if its recoverable but wont recover untill its paid for< but it does work very well. Attach your drive with the missing data as a second drive, scan with the PC's data recovery software you just installed and it will hopefully locate the missing files, and you can recover them to a safe place. |
