Just got 30 new computers about a week ago from pbtech without monitors, cost about $300 +gst each. Depending on where your school is located, just ask the local computer companies for quotes state how many you are after and where you are from, most will offer a bulk discount and some will give educational discounts. |

"Swings and Roundabouts" is right. Put that in your iPipe and smoke it. Why not think about the usefulness of your suggestion before posting. Why do they need to run XP? Even though it is probably better at this stage than Vista. Bootcamp will run either XP or Vista and XP is still available. Macs with the bundled iLife/iWork apps in education are actually a lot more use to students than Linux machines - they are better suited to back room servers. For schools, definitely stick with PCs with XP on them. My high school employs 40% mac, and I can tell you every students hates them. Even the teachers. All the rest are PCs with XP, and as students we're more used to it and find it easier. That would be because the students all try to use them like PCs. |

There is a BIG difference and you are not going to convince a school that they should switch their computer fleet to Macs. Also, since when can you buy 35 new Macs for $600 each? I was aware that the poster was asking for PCs with Windows - Macs run all 3 OSes. I don't know what price Apple NZ offers for new 20" iMacs to schools for although it would be considerably cheaper than the retail sticker price. Considering that the original poster has to get 35 new computers (regardless of platform) I thought it was worth putting forward the option. If they don't want iMacs or they don't fit the budget then so be it. |

| 617810 | 2007-12-05 01:11:00 | PCs are exactly what they want. Correction, Windows is what students and teachers are used to - it shouldn't matter what platform it is being run on. Windows is not the monopoly it used to be although if Newteach is able to get a better overall long term package from a PC suppler including the full range of edu software and IT support then go for it. | 617811 | 2007-12-05 02:01:00 | Consider a 3 year warranty or service contract (depending on cost) If you buy enough PC's maybee a local supplier will be willing to extend the warranty. May even be worthwhile talking to MS NZ to see if you can get a 'school' discount on Win. You've nothing to loose by asking, 'suggest' to MS that you are being pressured to go to Linux because of costs. |

| 617812 | 2007-12-05 02:04:00 | By the sound of it they already have Windows XP licenses so don't need to purchase it. They want to purchase PCs without XP or Vista. Newteach do you have any idea what the budget is? What specs of machine are required? |
