| 618177 | 2007-12-05 13:55:00 | I had symantec client security(version 10.1.5.5000) installed in my compamy's pc. The software can be update but is does not show any renewal date. The software was installed by a pc vendor. How to check if it is a genuine product and not a pirated copy. I do not have the product keyy with me | medsri (13098) | ||

| 618179 | 2007-12-05 19:32:00 | Welcome to PressF1 Medsri - This page Here (service1.symantec.com) explains all the greens and reds, there is a bit of information down in the small text that says about checking the status. If someone put this on a single PC thats not in the company or the Company IT person / department then it sounds to me like it may be a bit dodgy- usually these types of security have multi licences issued to the company concerned. EDIT: ditto to what Pctek suggested - better idea - better software. |

| 618180 | 2007-12-06 13:14:00 | To Wainuitech, Thanks for your info. I checked the article. I just found out that the windows XP operating sw on my pc is a pirated copy. Unable to view the windows security center on my pc. "If the License option does not appear, it is Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition without licensing"- does this means that the sw is a pirated copy? Can I continue using it with a license since i can up date it without any problem? |

I dont think this is because you've got a pirated copy. It sounds like you're infected with something. And the above isnt usually a sign of having a pirated copy. |

One way to check is go to Microsofts site here (www.microsoft.com) You must use IE - other browsers may not work and click on the button top right that checks your software. If it is legal - no worries, if its not then - yes it can be made legal by purchasing a genuine licence - but that another task if required. Regarding the Symantec - the Licencing for client Security is different to a standard single user licence. This site (www.symantec.com) introduces the licencing and This site (service1.symantec.com) tells you how to renew it. BUT usually the client support is part of a bigger package that a business purchases for a licence period - they may have a 1000 user licence, and then the client suport gets put on upto 1000 PC's. Different licencing options are available, and the support client doesn't actually have the licence code in it - the server that the licences are installed does. Seen this a few times where some shop has put in the Client support and when the person asks for the licence code - well things get awkward, or they get fed a load of bull sh*t. Personally I would remove the symantec software and install Nod32, its better software and at least you can get the licences for it to prove you have purchased it. If you want multi user licences they get cheaper the more you buy. The NZ distributor is chillisoft, Here (http://www.nod32.co.nz/) is Nod32 home page in NZ - click on purcahse and it will take you to the chillisoft site. You can also download the trial version that works for a month to see if you like it, if you do download it, let us know and I'll post back some instructions on altering some settings to make it work even better. If you do this remove Symantec first - you can only have 1 AV at a time- they fight other wise. As speedy mentioned the PC may be infected with something that symantec doesn't detect (no surprise there) download spyware doctor from my sig and run that - if you do the MS check and its OK and still have problems come back and someone will be able to help. |
