618386 2007-12-06 06:31:00 Hi Team

I've spent quite some time on-line today looking for a freeware video conversion program to change Quicktime video to something Apple-free .

Sadly, many promising programs turned out to be shareware with a hefty price tag (despite their enticing "freeware label") so I've decided to do what I should have done ages ago and ask for help! :groan:

I don't much care what it converts to but AVI seems to be the preferred format for most .

Cheers

Wow!!

That is just what I was looking for, and more, Speedy . Funny it never showed up in hours of searching, but it looks the bees knees so I'll give it a whirl .

Rad appeared in one search safari, but it was part of a pricy bundle on a UK site so I passed it by .

Thanks for the help .

Cheers

618390 2007-12-06 09:56:00 No worries, its been mentioned on here for converting a few 1000 times lol.

I use it here, for converting Youtube vids to MP4 for the Ipod here.

It works good!

It'll convert nearly every video / audio format you can think of.

618391 2007-12-06 11:01:00 Is SUPER the mencoder front-end?

Not sure if Handbrake does individual files, but it seriously rocks my socks off ;)

Yeah, but you know how it is Speedy, if you are not looking for it you don't see what's in front of your nose .

This all came up when I was installing Irfanview with all the fruit on my son's pc and found that it wouldn't play MOVs unless Quicktime was installed and I had deleted the installation files from my computer . Since all our computers run W2000 I needed an old version and searches for that were unsuccessful too .

On the bright side, I did learn how to stop QT from loading itself into the startup menu every time I used it and inserting the qttask icon in the system tray . You just rename qttask . exe to whatever you like (I called it expletive . del) and it is gone forever . I don't even know what qttask is or does, but I can live without it .
