618348 2007-12-06 04:18:00 We are putting together a new computer, and were considering to have two DVD writers.
We've already chosen one which is a Pioneer DVR-212BK 18x
We were recommended to have a second one that is different, but I'm not quite sure which brands are best to go for.
Any ideas?

OK two DVD writers may be a good idea. I have just installed a second DVD writer on mine as it is faster than the other one it still has.

Whom recommended a different brand and whom chose the original brand?

What are the rest of the specifications?

What O/S is going on the NEW computer?

Sorry for the questions but without knowing I will not guess.

Welcome to pressF1.

618352 2007-12-06 04:35:00 Thanks. :) Good to narrow it right down.

Might be going for the Asus DRW-2014L1T 20X Lightscribe SATA DVDRW Black.

Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400 DDR2-800 2GB Kit 5-5-5-12 x2

Western Digital Caviar 500GB SATA 7200rpm 16MB

NVIDIA GEFORCE 8800GT 512MB

XFX MB-N680-ISH9 nForce 680i REV A2

Pioneer DVR-212BK 18x

For the O/S, we think maybe XP Pro. Haven't sorted that either.
That and the monitor to go.

Cheers for your help. :)

618354 2007-12-06 04:43:00 It doesnt really matter WHAT brands of burners you put in.

Just as long as you remember to jumper them properly (If theyre IDE).

Actually, I could put 4 in here, if I removed the useless ide hdd thats in here lol.

1 ASUS DL / DVD, 1 LG DVD, 1 HP CD writer, and 1 Pioneer SL DVD / burner.

I'm using the ASUS at the mo, the other 3 are sitting in the drawer.

I bought an IDE Asus lightscribe mostly as I want to put more SATA hard drives in my system the speed of the IDE Asus is 18x as opposed to your 20x
I had a spare IDE port. And I would like to do the lightscribe.

So yours is better than mine.

No problem with Pioneer or Asus drives.

I would be inclined to go for Seagate drives rather than Western Digital.
Just my experience.

Warranty comes to mind here.

As for the O/S I would suggest you use whatever runs your applications and you can get drivers for the hardware.

618357 2007-12-06 05:12:00 We were considering Seagate...though yes, warranty to consider.

We'll be running mainly Adobe CS Suite and maybe AutoCAD.
It should be alright I think.
