618679 2007-12-07 20:59:00 Replace the PSU Speedy Gonzales (78)
618680 2007-12-07 21:48:00 ok ill do that. is there any chance it damages any parts by burning out? josh2200 (6681)
618681 2007-12-07 21:52:00 There is, but you won't really know until you've tried the new PSU, possibly something else is causing the problem. Now is where it's good to have a tech available, as they can diagnose the PC component by component and figure out exactly what's causing the problem. wratterus (105)
618682 2007-12-07 21:54:00 OK i was just wondering if it burnt out would that be the reason that the hard drive is not spinning/making any noise because there is not enof power for it...
as im building a new computer and was just gonig 2 take the hard drive, dvd reader/cd burner, wireless card out for the new computer

618683 2007-12-07 21:55:00 Try turning the power off to both monitor and PC give it a few seconds with no power connected then try it.

I had a loss of signal to my monitor a few days back and shut off all power for about 20 seconds and then when it was all powered up all was sweet. Not sure why or how it happened but it worked for me.

I have had a loss of signal a few times since I got my LCD screen and this method has fixed it each time.

618684 2007-12-07 21:57:00 In that case, there are two possibilites.

1. PSU has failed/failing, not putting out enough power to start up the HDD.

2. The PSU has blown up, taking the HDD with it.

Hopefully the latter isn't the case.

What.. nargh, should read the whole thread! :p No on has gone through resetting the BIOS and other basic stuff with you yet, do you know how to do that?

618686 2007-12-07 22:01:00 ok ill give it a go with new stuff when i get it all 2gether. but it turns on all the fans are running, the temperature gague is on (on the case) light on the motherboard is on. but the hard drive is not and it just smells burnt. are you able to take the hard drive out to see if its damaged? josh2200 (6681)
618687 2007-12-07 22:03:00 Is it the HDD or the PSU or both that smell burnt?

It sure is possible, try plugging it into a different PC.
