618477 2007-12-06 18:26:00 Hello,

I current am on the Xtra Everyday GO plan:
Data Allowance: 3 GB
Connection Speed:
Downstream: Maximum as fast as your line allows
Upstream: Up to 128 Kbps

I use the internet for emails and Trade Me while another member plays a game called RuneScape? Our total use of internet must be approximatly 4 hours a day if more. The problem I am having, is that on the ADSL router, the ADSL Link/Act light will stop or just flash. This leads to my internet being disconnected, and when it happens once every 10 minutes I really get annoyed :annoyed: .

Its only the start of the month so I dont think it would be anything to do with the plan. If it is does anyone have any tips about what plan I could move to that cost the same or less?

OT: Sometimes the computer randomly turns off (once a week) and no buttons were pressed and all cords were fully attached. We then have to wait a while until we can try turn it on again. :angry

Thanks in advance for all that wonderful help :D

618478 2007-12-06 18:42:00 Check you have everything connected to the phone line going through filters, this includes phones, faxes, sky digital etc.
If so disconnect everything including filters and just leave the router connected to the phone jack and see if you still get disconnects.

If it is now ok isolate the faulty filter or phone by connecting them back in one at a time.

If possible try another router to isolate any problems with this.

If the isolation check still gives disconnects contact Xtra and get them to investigate the problem, there are things they can do to make your connection more reliable.

618479 2007-12-06 18:49:00 Greetings, and welcome to PressF1 :)

What kinda router have you got? Cheap or free one by any chance? I had similar problems with my el-cheapo Epicrouter...

Or, as Safari said, other devices plugged in or telephone extension leads?

618481 2007-12-06 18:55:00 The filter used has a ADSL and a Phone socket. A cord is in the ADSL socket, should the phone one be used aswell?

Then vice-versa at the phone corner.

Yes if you are using a phone at that phone jack.
All phones or anything else connected into a phone jack have to be connected via a filter.

618483 2007-12-06 19:03:00 The ADSL port on the filter is only for your router connection.
Everything else is connected into the phone port of the filters.
