619368 2007-12-10 04:47:00 I bought a Sony VAIO Laptop 5 months back. It's true it costed me an arm and a leg ($2464 USD), but If I compare it with today's laptops, it's still top of the range!! Can never go wrong with a Sony laptop, it has 2 video chipsets, one dedicated GeForce Go 7400 with 64 MB dedicated RAM and 320 MB Shared RAM. and the other is an intel built in chipset , you can switch between them, so if u want more battery life you can use the intel chipset, if you want more speed then switch to the nvidia geforce chipset.

Additionally, it is very light weight ( about 2 kgs ) and is built from carbon fibre and is very slim, it includes a built in camera, built in mic, built in finger prnt sensor.

what more could you ask for?

the model is VGN-SZ484N

619369 2007-12-10 04:53:00 By the way, it comes with Windows Vista Business , at first I formatted right away and reinstalled XP, but nothing was compatible with XP with my laptop, so I was forced to use Vista, trust me after using it for about 3 days you will hate the way XP looks! and nowadays all PC peripherals have Vista divers! it's time to move on. don't buy an operating system which is already extint. Having just dual boot installed Vista on the shop PC I can tell you I couldn't care less what an O/S looks like. Its what it does or doesn't do that matters to me.

Preferably it should do as little as possible unless I feed it a command.

And as with XP the install was the quick part. now for the long painful ripping and tweaking to get rid of most of it.

I would have done the VLite thing but it wanted so many bits that didn't exist in my XP I couldn't be bothered installing them first.

Anyway good practice removing all this **** the long way.

And as for extinct O/Ss, I still own DOS6.22

619371 2007-12-10 14:09:00 What do j00 use DOS for? I know how to use it fairly well but I'm losing that magical touch since I never require to use it. MaXimus (13013)
619372 2007-12-10 18:27:00 Contrary to many opinions on this forum, I can recommend Dell Inspiron 6400 - about $NZ1,500 - which can be more or less, depending on your requirements. This can be ordered with Windows XP S.P.2 - if you wish. I have used this model daily for over a year and it has fulfilled all my expectations. Oldferix (5581)
