620602 2007-12-12 10:43:00 Hello,

I got myself a 21" Dell monitor and according to specificatoins on Dell's site, it's supposed to support upto 2048x1536 addressable resolution. However, nothing above 1768x992 appeares in Display Properties, and only 1600x1200 actually fits this monitor.

I have a GeForce 7300GS video card and Windows Vista. All the drivers (video card and monitor) are successfully installed.

Do you have any ideas how to enable a resolution higher than 1600x1200?

Thank you.

620603 2007-12-12 11:10:00 Hi digitalis and welcome to PressF1 :)

Does Vista identify the monitor as a Dell 21"? (correct model?)
Have you tried changing the refresh rate to allow other resolutions?
Have you got the latest Nvidia reference drivers?

620604 2007-12-12 14:48:00 Hi and thanks for your welcome.

I've installed all the drivers I could get. Vista does recognize the monitor as Dell P1130. My video card has a CD and that's where I got the drivers. Should I look for a newer ones on the web?
I tried changing the model of the monitor, rolled its driver back to Generic PnP, but nothing was different.

620605 2007-12-12 15:04:00 Update: I downloaded the latest drivers I could find on nVidia's web site and also re-installed the monitor driver. Again, nothing's changed, the biggest resolution is 1768x992 which doesn't fit my monitor. Any suggestions? digitalis (13140)

Hmm very strange. Did you check to see if you can change the refresh rate to support other resolutions? I'm not using Vista so I'm not sure if you can do that.

I had a search on Google and it seems that this is a common problem with some crt monitors and Vista.

There's reference to the problem here: omgili.com hwP3Q9MTIxMDg0MQ==

You might also want to try Powerstrip: downloads.guru3d.com to force a custom resolution

620607 2007-12-13 08:05:00 Thank you. Yes, I did try switching refresh rates both using nVidia control panel and Display properties on Windows. Nothing changes, no new resolutions appear. I'll have a look at the links you gave me and post again if this works. digitalis (13140)
620608 2007-12-13 08:44:00 Well, here I am again. I tried Power strip and yes, I managed to get a higher resolution... but @60Hz. Nightmare.
Strangely enough, Pstrip showed that my monitor is capable of reaching 1800x1440@87Hz... Anyway, the custom resolution butten was grayed out, and after going to 1920x1200, there was nothing above 60Hz in Display Properties... :((

Damn, I guess this might be a Vista bug that will be fixed at some stage. Hopefully in service pack 1, which is in testing now.
