| 620494 | 2007-12-12 02:27:00 | Hi there. Given the low cost of ram I'm thinking about upgrading from 1G to 2G :just for games(I know it wont help me type Docs any faster :-) I read of one test were going from 1 to 2G on XP actually slowed down the PC perhaps due to XP's poor memory management. Was this just a one off or is this what happens on XP with 2G?? Any other gamers noticed any benefit by going to 2G RAM?? |

With 2 gigs or more of ram = no stuttering in games, faster load times, faster respawns. In general pc use snapper response from windows,programes/games install faster.:) I wish when I started off I had allways had 2 gigs of ram its that good, now when I bouild new computers for myself I start of with 2 gigs as a matter of course and upgrade to more when I can. 2 gigs of ram is normal for gamers its a given if your a gamer then you will of course have 2 gigs of ram,if not more. Usually XP gamers have 2 gigs and Vista Gamers have 4 gigs as there OS uses up some of there ram just for there fancy desktop and other stuff!! Ram is good, more the better, power, power, broom,go fast, yeah!!!:D |

| 620499 | 2007-12-12 06:56:00 | Windows 2000, XP and Vista (I think) handle virtual memory differently to pre-Windows 2000. They swap data between RAM and virtual memory when necessary, so as much physical RAM is available as possible. | pcuser42 (130) | ||
