2007-12-11 04:49:00 | Friends, Vista taking ages to startup. In the Hijack file I see all kind of entries from the past (Motorola, even Norton that was on the comp when I got it). How can I clean my stuff up? Anything here that should not be there ? I have about 12 icons righthandside below at startup....... | 620236 | 2007-12-11 04:53:00 | How long did it take to startup? | timmy101 (12484) | |
2007-12-11 04:53:00 | by the looks of it, its fine | timmy101 (12484) | |
2007-12-11 05:00:00 | There should be nortons removal tool available that removes all trace of nortons, provided you no longer use nortons/symantic anymore I think this is it (service1.symantec.com) Just as a point of interest, when you say it is taking ages to load up, has it always taken a while (some machine that are solved with Vista are a little underpowered), or is it fairly recent

2007-12-11 05:08:00 | reload HJT. Dump these - they are safe but not needed at startup O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Reader Speed Launcher] "D:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\Reader_sl.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "D:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime O4 - Global Startup: WinZip Quick Pick.lnk = C:\Program Files\WinZip\WZQKPICK.EXE Go to Here (service1.symantec.com) and download the Norton Removal tool / run it - as long as you are Not using Nortons. I see you have Nod32 - If you have norton Installed still uninstall it, stick with Nod. Download the Free Spyware Doctor from my sig, install /run it, see if it picks any thing up.

2007-12-11 05:15:00 | And disable Indexing services. In services, wherever this is in Vista. Tick this entry as well. | 620241 | 2007-12-11 07:41:00 | Thanks guys, I have only 1 gig memeory on my ASYS S6 notebook. The only option is to chuck the whole gig in the bin and buy a 1.5 gig memory module as this seems to be the largest one available for this very recent notebook. Disappointing, shouls have gone for the Vaio TZ ....... Startup Vista Business 2 minutes, much longer than in the beginning. Will follow your advise. Thanks again Johan

2007-12-11 07:49:00 | Don't beat up on yourself and rush at a memory upgrade. 1GB is fine. Just get rid of the startup crap. | linw (53) | |
2007-12-11 08:08:00 | hi hotkiwi. as suggested by speedy... disable indexing. Start > Computer. Right click on the hard disk you don't want to be indexed. Select Properties. Take the check out of the "Index this drive, etc..." It will ask if you want to include all the folders and files - yes. Back out using OK. First time I ran it on Vista it took 15 minutes. If more than one disk or drive, will have to run it on each.
