620592 2007-12-12 20:17:00 Infact i am going to format the hard drive and fresh install to the TRIAL version from the Microsoft website. Hopefully that will work out grahic (12930)
620593 2007-12-12 20:41:00 That will work, but you HAVE to advise that it is a trial, and at the end of 30 days the person will have to pay for the OS - usually retail pricing if they wish to carry on using it - because it will simply refuse to run past the activation page after 30 days. wainuitech (129)
620594 2007-12-12 21:58:00 Yeah, as Wainuitech said, basically after that 30-day period they SHOULD be able to use a Retail, OEM or VLK (Not that they'll have a VLK), depending on how you package / setup the OS.

To change the key, there's a vbscript on the Microsoft website, or you can use Regedit if you'd prefer, see the official Microsoft KB article (Probably a good idea to provide this to whoever purchases your box): support.microsoft.com

620600 2007-12-13 02:44:00 You can't legally charge for or resell a trial version of windows either... Agent_24 (57)
620601 2007-12-13 03:37:00 Trade me will NOT let you sell a computer with a "trial" or "demo" version of XP.

You've got two options. You can sell it with XP on and activated using its COA, or you can sell it without XP. Selling it with a blank hard drive is fine.

You might get away with it if no staff members look at your auction, but they're doing a big crackdown at the moment so your chances aren't good.

It is also illegal to use your COA's product key on another PC. If you're going to do that, at least take the COA sticker off so the buyer doesn't also try to use it.

Whether or not what you are doing is legit, the words "demo" or "trial" say to Trade Me staff, "pirated OS", and they'll pull your auction if they notice.

Edit: Whoops, looks like you've already listed it, and said "no OS", which is good. It's too expensive though.
