Uhh.. It's not just Sony making Blu-Ray, there are many other big names in the Blu-Ray group. See here (en.wikipedia.org). There are lots of other big names making Blu-ray players/discs.

620421 2007-12-13 05:21:00 No You Didn't goof - Ashampoo Will Detect what type of Disk is loaded, there is no settings to tell it to what to detect, Eg: Blue Ray / DVD/CD.

I have seen lots of DVD-RW's give false reading - or fail. Try a DVD-R and I think You'll find its fine. RW = Rubbish - seen so many failures it not funny.
My DVD recorder describes itself as DVD-RW DVD-109.
Having said that, you say the disc's I should buy are DVD-R??

620422 2007-12-13 05:24:00 Most, or all DVD burners can burn R or RW.

BUT, R are more reliable than RW - rewritables.

620423 2007-12-13 05:28:00 What Speedy said  RW's have a higher failure rate. wainuitech (129)

620425 2007-12-14 09:15:00 ...and if we want to be really picky, it's technically Blu-ray (little 'r')

;)
