620823 2007-12-13 04:06:00 so i am trying to get files back from a CD for a friend.....

he has a regular cd-r 700MB disk
he had about 300Mb of photos on it.
he added two MP3 files to it.

he now has a CD with only the two MP3 files.
looking at the disk in windows i see two files making up 23MB.
looking at the disk properties i see a 700MB disk that is about 50% full.

I assume that the photos are still there but not the directory for the photos.\
a quick look at the disk with nero, disk info and it show 8 sessions adding up to about 300MB
is there any way i can recover the photos??

NOTE: this is NOT a re-writable disk it's a standard cd-r disk.

620824 2007-12-13 04:27:00 turns out that ISO buster will let you open multisession disks and get files out of any session.

fixed!!

620825 2007-12-13 04:28:00 The files will still. be there ... there's no way to reuse any area once it's witten on ... so the only thing "lost" is the directory which tells the system where to find them.

If the MP3 files were "added", the existing files should still be accessible (axs you would expect). A new directory containing everything should have been written.

I have from time to time had CDs with "missing" files after adding files on Library computers. "Closing" (or "Finalizing"?) the disk with Nero (on my home computer) has worked in those cases.

Before trying that, wait for input from someone who has recovered files more recently. ;D

620827 2007-12-13 05:17:00 Maybe in the meantime cd recovery tools from the snapfiles freeware (www.snapfiles.com) section might help... kahawai chaser (3545)
