620343 2007-12-11 19:52:00 Hi,
can someone please direct me to / reccommend a good, easy to use, reliable DVD-avi/DivX converter that is FREE and FULL VERSION. I have been told there are some good ones around, but I keep finding the trial versions that leave a big water mark on the the output file......:annoyed: Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. :D

620344 2007-12-11 20:13:00 ImToo DVD Ripper is my preference. Not free, but very good. If you want to do a lot of that type of thing, I'd recommend splashing out. :p wratterus (105)
620345 2007-12-11 20:35:00 This site here has the best program that will convert your .vob and .mpg movies to .avi

http://www.clonead.co.uk/

I've been using it for a long time now to make my movies into .avi files that play in the stand alone DVD players. Also now that the Xbox 360 has been updated to play .avi files, I can now, just chuck them on a thumb drive and press play.

620346 2007-12-11 21:12:00 Handbrake (handbrake.m0k.org). It doesn't do Divx I don't think, but will do others FREE
Super (www.erightsoft.com) is another free one that does almost any format, again not sure if it does divx, but just follow the link and have a look

620347 2007-12-12 00:21:00 Handbrake does do XviD :) I highly recommend it, and encode to h.264 video! Chilling_Silence (9)
620348 2007-12-12 01:12:00 Yes i was just about to say use handbreak, its very good password (5384)
620349 2007-12-12 01:53:00 Though it's easy to get DivX/Xvid codecs and players, does not seem to be many free divX convertors. I think the popular virtual dub might be able to convert. I once used a program called Auto Gordian Knot (www.videohelp.com) - I think it now includes DivX conversions - but check the comments section... kahawai chaser (3545)
620350 2007-12-12 08:34:00 VirtualDub can, and besides these days you're better off going to XviD over DivX (Coz its open-source / free) or if you're not planning on playing it on a standalone DVD player then go to h.264 (The same codec used in the iPod and for BluRay / HDDVD Movies) coz its WAY better quality! Blacks are blacker, colors are more vibrant, and you can encode it at a higher resolution for the same file-size meaning you get better quality picture coz theres more pixels = more detail :D Chilling_Silence (9)

620352 2007-12-12 11:31:00 DVD Decrypter and then Virtual Dub.
You need to install a mp3 encoder and a Divx encoder the latter at divx.com
