621636 2007-12-16 04:17:00 If I put my XP into Hibernation the Internet connection cuts off after several hours.

This is frustrating because I have to reboot which negates the whole idea of Hibernation. It loses its IP address.

Is there a way of keeping connected? My SP is Xtra and use a Dick Smith ADSL Ethernet Router.

Any ideas?

621637 2007-12-16 04:33:00 You would need to use either an external device (Because it drops your connection when it sees your machine is offline), or just disconnect then re-connect? You shouldnt have to reboot? Chilling_Silence (9)
621638 2007-12-16 04:49:00 If I switch off the router for a while then on again nothing happens .
I can not reset the router because I have forgotten the password . They used to have a pin hole to reset it but no longer . Instructions say return to the maker for resetting to defaults

I haven't tried removing the cable as it is awkward to get at bit will try .
Someone said something about an address allocation time expiring? Xtra are no help on this matter .

621639 2007-12-16 04:54:00 The router shouldn't cut the internet connection, its only feeding from the Modem. What model of DSE router is it ?

Not This One (www.dse.co.nz) is it ? if so it looks like only a TP-Link Renamed.

621640 2007-12-16 05:39:00 Dont know if this will work with ethernet, but it does apply to USB modems

From here (groups.google.co.nz)

Right click My Computer Icon/Properties/Hardware/Device Manager. Expand USB
Controllers/Double Click USB Root Hub. Select Power Management and uncheck,
Allow the computer to turn off the device to save power.

BUT instead of going to the above, dbl click on the network adapter then go to the power management tab and clear allow the computer to turn off the device to save power.

Then see if it cuts the connection.
