621208 2007-12-14 13:47:00 Trying to get some help to organise some wiring that is scattered. I have the server room with the patch panel and switches. The patch panel accepts all users and sends them to the switches.

Just trying to do some organisation if you know what I mean::confused:

Plaese advice on a few approaches

Thanks

Raymond

621209 2007-12-14 18:55:00 Pull the lot out and start from scratch.
Label both ends of the cables, label the panel.
Make up a spreadsheet and put it in a folder, and note all the labelling in that too.
Use lots of velcro cable ties.
When finished, ban everyone from touching it ever again.

Seriously thats how we did it at the Uni I worked for doing structured cabling.

621210 2007-12-15 11:36:00 I actually totally agree, we have the same problem at work, years of latching connection on to connection .

Now that our network is quite large, the server rooms are over run with cables left right and centre, you can barely get anything done in a rack .

We've started re-doing each patch panel one at a time .

Documenting evrything and then limiting access to the cable racks . It looks heaps better and working with the routers and switches is a piece of Pi$$ really . It's amazing what a bit of good house keeping can do to make your work easier .

If you ever need essential documentation such as that maintained on a computer, it's always on the computer you can't access.
