620998 2007-12-14 01:55:00 I've got a folder with files in it that I don't want anyone to be able to delete files from . I used the advanced folder permissions to untick the 'delete' functionality but now have come across a strange problem .

If I want to save a document from an email (right click/save as) or open the document and try to Save As it won't let me save it into the folder . It says there is already a file with that name in the folder (there isn't) and when I say replace it it says that the folder is marked as 'read only' . It also dumps an fsa . tmp file (size=0) or a document called what I tried to save it as (also size=0) .

Curiously, I can save the file into that folder by dragging it or copying & pasting it .

Is there something in the way that Save As works that is prevented from working properly when the delete permission is removed??

We have Small Business Server 2003 and Windows XP Prof .

Cheers for any help
Susan

620999 2007-12-14 03:22:00 This looks suspiciously like an "advanced feature", otherwise known as a "bug".

It could be that the "Save As" function has an oldfashioned interpretation of the file attributes of that directory (which is a file itself) , and thinks it is "Read Only". This would indeed be a way to prevent file deletion in DOS; it would also prevent adding files. ;)
