621290 2007-12-15 08:17:00 Have u BEEN in the case, in the last 3 years??

Might need a clean.

Yea that's what I thought, so I opened up my pc and checked...there was definitely accumulated dust in the 2 fans...so I went to buy canned air from dicksmith and sprayed it all over...pretty much no dust in there now...let's see if this fixes the problem. Sorry for bothering you guys...should have thought of this earlier

621291 2007-12-15 08:19:00 No worries :)

I would also clean the CPU heatsink out if its full of dust.

621292 2007-12-15 08:37:00 mum and dad's computer has got the same problem, but they only had it for about 2 years.
when they first bought it the fan was all quiet and nice, but now, as soon as they power up the PC the fan gives out annoying whirring noise...:bad pc:

I assume the heatsink is the metal block inbetween the CPU and the CPU fan?

it's usually dust, so have a look

even after 5 years fan bearings still seem to operate quietly - any noise is always either dust blocking heatsinks, dust on the fan blades, and/or a loose wire rubbing on the fan blades
