622141 2007-12-19 02:08:00 well today my sound still hasn't come back.
i know the device should be installed,
but its like the hardware? itself isn't there. (when it came back the last time it was going fine without me having to install driver again or anything like that)

in the bios > the onchip ac97 is set to auto, and the 'modem' chip?? is set to disabled.
but that didn't seem to do anything. can anyone help?

622142 2007-12-19 02:12:00 If the icon doesnt appear for it, it doesnt mean the sound isnt working.

It may mean someone has deleted the command for it, in startup.

BUT, the sound will still work.

Did u save the settings in the BIOS Izle if you changed it to auto?

Are there any X's or !'s in device manager anywhere?

If you go to control panel / sound and audio devices. Audio tab / Whats the default device?

622143 2007-12-19 03:16:00 hhmm, no sound at all is going at the moment.

it was already saved to auto in the bios.

there are no x's or !'s or any errors in the device manager.

in sound and audio device properties the default device is 'Modem #4 Line Playback'. (i think when the sound was working it wasn't that device, but im not totally sure?)

this problem is really bugging me because i don't know what the exact problem is in order for me to fix it, i thought errors would have showed up in the device manager, but no?

622144 2007-12-19 03:37:00 Is there anything else besides the modem entry tho??

Click on the down arrow on the end..

If it shows a soundcard change it to that. The modem setting wont give u sound.

622145 2007-12-19 03:40:00 If you cant change it, or nothing to change, go to My Computer, right click it, select properties>Hardware Tab> Device Manager>Look down the list, look for sound and audio devices, see if any have a ? or ! mark or if they are there at all.

You may need to uninstall them, by right clicking / uninstall and reboot, they should then pick up the drivers and install new ones.

622146 2007-12-19 03:51:00 ok im not sure which ones to uninstall, there are:

Audio Codecs; Legacy Audio Drivers; Legacy Video Capture Devices; Media Control Devices & Video Codecs = BUT when i click on these, it doesn't give me the option to uninstall/install them, even though in device status it says 'the device is working properly'.

the devices i am able to uninstall are:
MPU-401 Compatible MIDI Device; Standard Game Port; Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device. But i have a feeling none of these are the ones i want?

622147 2007-12-19 04:15:00 What was the outcome from Speedys question in post 14 Please?

Something else that comes to mind from previous posts - this does have onboard audio ?? and not using a sound card ?

622148 2007-12-19 05:29:00 well well...i've just turned my comp back on & the audio is working again.

in the device manager the "VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller (WMD)" is now showing. (but when i have no sound it doesn't show)

still, i have no idea why it is doing this...

tomorow or the day after that i will turn my comp on and my audio will be gone again.
