621918 2007-12-17 19:53:00 are you sure it's actually shattered? I've had one come off the centre piece that's meant to hold it, the Noise was horrendous, but the cd survived ( physically anyway, scratched all to hell ). They do spin at a few RPM.

Because the disk was not in the draw anymore it jammed it from opening, but I used a bit of brute force and ignorance and got it out ( older drive anyway )

As for the CD, the important part is the key, which I'm sure wasn't in the drive. You can copy someone else's disk as long as you have a valid key to use.

yup it shattered.....thousands of holographic pieces on my desk. some anti - priracy measures.....what next? pc self destructs if windows isnt valid? lol. i remove all the stuff but the drive makes a horrid grinding noise when ever i try to press the open button

621920 2007-12-17 22:22:00 Sounds like there's still a piece or two blocking the gears. If you're brave (or like me, just don't care), take the top off again, and push the tray out, any pieces left should come out then, and the gears might survive too! :D ubergeek85 (131)
