622131 2007-12-17 21:12:00 im not sure why this is happening but sometimes when i turn my computer on the sound doesn't work...the volume icon won't even show up in the task bar, its like there is no sound device at all.

i know its should be installed properly because about every second day the sound is working fine again like there was no problem. but today its not working, this has been going on for almost a week.

does anyone know why this is happening?

622132 2007-12-17 22:04:00 Try this - Click Start> run> type in eventvwr Look at the log files to see if there is an error message relating to the sound / time its failed. Post back any results. wainuitech (129)
622133 2007-12-17 22:24:00 under application and system there are huge lists but no error about sound devices...unless im looking at the wrong place?

actually there are errors under 'service control manager' saying
"The BtCap, WDM Video Capture service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it."

622134 2007-12-17 22:27:00 Your Aduio Drivers could be damaged, try downloading the latest from the manufacture and install and see if that fixes it.

If you are not to sure which ones please advice what motherboard you have - or if you are using a seperate sound card.

That is a motherboard - An ECS mother Board Driver Downloads Here (www.ecs.com.tw(V3.1)&CategoryID=1&MenuID=82&LanID=0), audio is the very bottom one. Download it, and reinstall it. - See if that helps.

622138 2007-12-17 23:45:00 Nope - restart the Computer - keep hitting the Delete key on start up, this should get you into the BIOS - using the arrow keys scroll down to Integrated Peripherals>VIA Onchip PCI Device>Onchip AC97 -- Audio Make sure its set to Auto or enabled. Then press F10 to save and Reboot the PC - see if that fixes it. wainuitech (129)
622139 2007-12-18 00:14:00 I've got a similar problem but it isn't really a problem. Quite often boots up without the speaker icon. I simply restart and it comes up every time. I gave up trying to update drivers or track down the cause. It seems like the audio doesn't like starting when everything is cold but starts 100% after that initial warm-up. coldot (6847)
