| 621670 | 2007-12-16 05:39:00 | i wanted to get broadband and i just realised. whats the difference between a modem and a router? is it the same thing and do i need to buy both before getting broadband if my isp doesnt provede theit own? also i waanted to know if wired broadband is faster than wireless. everyone says it is because the signals take a long time to get there or something |

| 621671 | 2007-12-16 05:46:00 | A modem gets u on the net, the router has the extra ethernet ports, I think so u can share the connection. If you've got more than 1 computer, wherever u are. Your ISP may give u the modem or router (might be one or the other, or modem/router in one). Depends what ISP you go with. BUT, from what I've seen most of the modems/routers an ISP gives u are crap. I brought my own modem/router. Just dont get or buy a USB modem/router Wireless, if youre into gaming is too slow and crap. Stick with wired. |

Also use usb headset and mike.Most of them (USB modems) give connection issues etc If you just want a basic connection to the internet, get a modem. If you require more than one computer to use your internet connection, get a router. Some ISP's will give away a modem, if you ask for a router; generally they will give you one at a cut price. As said, the giveaways are lower-end (i.e. cheapies) |

| 621677 | 2007-12-16 20:48:00 | I wasn't talking about a cheap USB modem. Agree they are rubbish.I had a DSE one once!!!!. I was refering to the USB bit. I have a Belkin router modem with four ports and a couple of radio aerials.USB. And I only have one computer. But it's good and fast. |
