623043 2007-12-20 03:54:00 I have an HP NC-4000 that won't post anymore, giving it power and turning on is met with fans going, but screen does not turn on, can't hear any seeking from the hard drive.
I would guess the motherboard/cpu is dead, anything I could try to see if I can get it working?
Any help much appreciated

623044 2007-12-20 04:36:00 Maybe the screen is faulty - is there an external vga port you could try connecting a monitor to? Agent_24 (57)

My acer travelmate 230 also has this problem took it to a computer technician and was told it was a faulty/broke motherboard, and that it was a $600-700 fix.
So yeah, its going up on Trademe,

But check by plugging an external moniter on it.

623046 2007-12-20 05:15:00 I've had a similar problem previously ended up one of the ram sticks had come out slightly as was never properly clicked in when assembled. stormdragon (6013)
623047 2007-12-22 00:00:00 Checked with external VGA etc, reseated memory, hard drive. Still fails to post, i have kinda confirmed what I thought, dead motherboard, its unusual though because 1/20 times it boots to bios then dies again. dirtbag (6060)
623048 2007-12-22 00:02:00 Change the BIOS battery Speedy Gonzales (78)
623049 2007-12-22 00:07:00 Yes, dead BIOS battery can often do that, even though it's supposed to work and just say "CMOS Battery failed"

small chance it may also be CPU. I had very similar things happen on a desktop with a faulty CPU.

623050 2007-12-22 00:10:00 Well, it can't be completely dead, if the BIOS info comes up.

And if its going into the BIOS (without you pressing whatever key), as soon as u turn it on, its telling you something.

It may mean its lost its settings ( as in flat battery).

Doesn't go straight into bios, its just me spamming f10 to see if it will get anywhere :badpc:
