623023 2007-12-20 02:19:00 Can you still get Spybot without it? It's really annoying, I checked the option not to install it when I installed SSD, but it installed it on other peoples accounts. I like SSD, but hate TeaTimer.

Also, it crashes ALL THE TIME! Is it just a massive resource hog? Or have I got a dud edition? I don't think it's beta...

623024 2007-12-20 02:36:00 Teatimer can be turned off when and if you want to . . I find that to get some special Windows updates I have to turn it off until the installation is done and then turn it on again .

You will need to have Spybot running in ADVANCED MODE to make these adjustments .

If you want help . . . ring again . . . OK?

If you find Teatimer is popping up all the time . . turn it off . . reboot and then turn it back on to get rid of the notices .

623026 2007-12-20 05:54:00 I would leave Teatimer off, its annoying .

And it can block programs that you install writing to the registry as well

623028 2007-12-20 07:45:00 I wouldnt have a clue where the option is now.

I tried Spybot about 2 weeks ago. It was slow as a snail.

It took about 2 mins to start, and 3 or more mins to do anything else.

I removed it.

I removed it.I agree. OK I will just have to search a bit more.
I am running Spyware Doctor which I think is better.
I looked a little further and have now turned Teatimer off. Cheers.

Although loading up and seeing the Spybot gui does take a long time, the actual running of the whole program is pretty easy on the system.

I know that recently, SB has gotten bloated-looking..but stick with it for a while as there's a lot of complaints and it is being totally re-written.

I have liked it for a long time..and it is the primary anti-tool that most malware tries to disable first. It's poison to most bad guys so they have been working on it to make it useless..and Spybot is getting a lot of flack because of that.

Just wait..it'll get better.

I know that getting updates and checking the settings is a long process..but SB has to shut of a lot of things just to let you see what's happening inside when you decide to make an inspection.

Be patient..it'll improve after the next re-write and the next beta gets out here.

Sorry to not get back to you sooner..I am on a different time zone here (even a different hemisphere too).

For others who didn't find the Teatimer setting...it's in (Advanced mode only)....>>TOOLS>>Resident and uncheck TeaTimer until you get the IE or Windows updates installed, then go back into SB and turn it back on again.

You'll know that you need to turn off Teatimer when you get error messages in your Windows updates that say there is a bad checksum or that it (the installation of the update) failed.

Thanks for your helpful comments. It was just that Teatimer that was
becoming a bit annoying. Cheers.

623032 2007-12-20 21:24:00 You can choose if you want it installed when you install S&D. Though you may need to choose "custom installation", of course that's not a problem for me because I always select that Agent_24 (57)
