623033 2008-02-25 16:02:00 Anyone know how you'd go about installing Spybot 1.5.2 (has TeaTimer set to install by default unless you go to the customize install as stated before) to install via: command line WITHOUT installing TeaTimer? I deploy Spybot out to everyone here at work, and schedule it to run scans once a week remotely as well.

In Spybot 1.4, installing TeaTimer was optional, I could keep everyone at my work at version 1.4 but would kind of like to upgrade them to the latest.

Here's a list (www.safer-networking.org) of the command line parameters supported by Spybot 1.5.2 but I don't see anything about excluding the installation of TeaTimer. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advanced for any help!

623034 2008-02-25 20:26:00 From the list, i'd say a good bet would be to use a configuration file for the install, though I dont know if the teatimer on/off is specified in the config file:

/loadinf="filename" (and /saveinf="filename")
Can be used to use a saved setup configuration (or save one).

623035 2008-02-25 20:53:00 I am unable to turn off TeaTimer. I have tried surferjoes method but it just comes back on next time I reboot. It is very annoying. I guess the easiest way would be to uninstall Spybot altogether.? Pato (2463)
623036 2008-02-25 21:33:00 I stand to be corrected here, but I have found that if I use CCleaner on a regular basis, Spybot and Adaware are both unnecessary.

CCleaner is regularly updated, and gets rid of all the things that either of those programmes picked up on my computer. I uninstalled Adaware and Spybot a couple of months ago because they were not adding anything to CCleaner.

Do others agree?

Disclaimer: When I installed Spybot I unchecked TeaTimer, so I never used it and don't know whether it was useful.

CCleaner is simply a "clean up left overs" program. its does not stop nor clean out infections. its possible that your are infected but just don't know it.
tho it can be usefull as infections often hide in temp file locations.

623038 2008-02-25 21:48:00 Thanks. Over several years of using those programmes (Spybot and Adaware) I only ever found tracking cookies etc, and I have CCleaner set to get rid of all cookies except the ones I have told it to keep, so I guess that is why I found those programmes superfluous.

PressF1 is probably the dodgiest website I visit, so that may explain why I never got any nasties! :D

How to Disable TeaTimer.

Command Lines:

www.safer-networking.org

CCleaner removes temp files, cookies etc. It does not scan for or remove malware.

623040 2008-02-25 22:28:00 I just opened the Spybot folder in program files and deleted TeaTimer.exe. Subtle as something that's not very subtle, I know. But it worked! Thebananamonkey (7741)
623041 2008-02-29 15:56:00 A few hours after posting in here I found this thread (forums.spybot.info). Has everything I needed, but thanks for the extra links guys! Will come in handy incase someone's TeaTimer accidentally gets turned on here in the office! jonathansmith68 (13191)
623042 2008-02-29 23:21:00 I honestly don't know what the problem is - I've been using spybot for a long long time over a lot of different versions and every single time I've installed i've always had the option to use TeaTimer or not - tried it once and it was horrible so I never tried it again...
