2007-12-20 11:25:00 | My computer has almost the same specs as yours. I had a problem with the SATA DVD drive not wanting to boot XP so 'borrowed' a conventional CD Rom IDE and used that to install with no further problems. Once I had the Motherboard drivers installed I had no further problems. I use Acronis True Image for backups, and found that the rescue disc with USB support would not see the SATA drives, however the alternative disc works fine. I believe that this is because the USB are already supported by Bios & there is a conflict. I have found that Dos boot CD's sometimes will not function unless there is a FAT partition on the hard drive. I have made a small FAT partition for this purpose which is unallocated to XP. (no letter assigned) ( I used to run a Dos Database on CD). Dos used to work fine on my old box Pentium 4, but will only run on the dual PCU machine with the aid of 'Dos Box' which works 100%.

2007-12-20 18:31:00 | Thanks mzee, I might try installing from the IDE tonight. See how that goes. The first stick passed 18 tests, so now I'm doing the second stick while I'm at work. Also uninstalling the graphics drivers and reinstalling them did not work, although possibly because there are no other drivers but nvidia ones on this custom xp disk. :(:(

2007-12-20 23:51:00 | My Asus M2N-MX- SE board also has Nvidia drivers. I had to have several attempts at getting the USB2 hub installed, and never managed to get the sound to work, so installed a sound card which I already had. Pig of a thing, but performs very well!! It also has a very limited Bios Menu. | mzee (3324) | |
2007-12-21 02:39:00 | Oh really? I think you have to install the UAA (universal audio architecture) drivers update from microsoft. I had to do the same for my and my friends laptop when I STRIPPED it of that miserable excuse for an OS vista.... ;) Google UAA I can't seem to find the link anywhere but I will get you the KB number when i get home :)

2007-12-21 06:18:00 | OK, so the memtest for the other stick of ram passed 27 times. Thinking power was the issue, I found the 2xmolex->1xgfx-molex and plugged that in making sure I selected different rails for each molex and still no luck. Previously I was using the gfx-molex from the powersupply. The power supply is a 550W Task. Should be up to the job right? I am about to try running the computer with a dedicated 400W task power supply to see if it will work then. Wish me luck :)

2007-12-21 22:07:00 | Well, I tried I tried running it with its own power supply and that didn't work. Next thing I did was put in a new graphics card of the EXACT SAME model and it did exactly the same thing. So now I'm thinking that it has something to do with either the mobo or the OS. What do you guys think?
