622876 2007-12-19 08:43:00 I have just tried to reinstall XP after taking it apart to clean to give to a younger relation. When I boot up XP, it says "setup will now check your computer's hardware configuration" then it goes blank.

Have tried the following but do not have any success:
Format HDD (using another PC)
Updated BIOS

All components seem to be working fine..except for installing the OS.

Intel D865PERL Mobo, P4 3.0 GHz, 1G DDR 400 RAM. ASUS DVD, Seagate 160G HDD

Advice needed.

622877 2007-12-19 09:03:00 This is strange. I have just been able to install Unbuntu. SO it must be something to do with Windows then. Any ideas ephesus (2509)

622880 2007-12-19 09:29:00 Disable native mode in the BIOS, if its there then try again.

It may or may not be waiting for SATA drivers (on floppy), and for you to press F6 during the Windows install.

622881 2007-12-19 09:39:00 You may need a floppy with Sata driver on it (from here: www.intel.com) feersumendjinn (64)

How do you disable native mode?

622883 2007-12-19 09:40:00 Disable native mode, and see if it goes further. Speedy Gonzales (78)
622884 2007-12-19 09:42:00 This is the 2nd/3rd time I have reinstalled on this computer. Previously it installed OK without having to install any drivers - just pop the XP disk and way it goes. The only difference this time is that I have taken the fan apart to clean, and also inadverntly reset the BIOS. ephesus (2509)
622885 2007-12-19 09:47:00 That maybe why. Reconfigure the BIOS again.

And save the settings.

And make sure the SATA is getting detected in the BIOS.
